Cheryl was a wonderful musician, saxophonist and pianist, as well as a great friend, and i was fortunate to play with her, alongside Guildford Jazz supreme Marianne Windham, on many occasions. Her sudden, unexpected death a few years ago was a terrible shock for all her family and friends.
Cheryl was a dedicated and inspirational teacher, and in her memory money was raised to fund an award for young musicians in the area she lived and worked.

Three original tunes, played by myself on vibes, with the Russell Jarrett on guitar, and Marianne Windham on the double bass, and we call this trio UNDERCURRENT.
This is about as “straight ahead” as I get these days when I’m playing my own music. Over and Over is a straight forward, slightly Monkish blues. Miss You Already was written in the middle of the night after receiving news of the death of friend and fellow musician Cheryl King (see above). Shadowdance was inspired by a passage from Louis Macneice’s “Autumn Journal”, describing his love affair with artist Nancy Sharp.

I saw Corey play a while back and was knocked out by his whole approach to the vibes: eliciting sounds from the instrument you wouldn't have thought possible (bowing the keys, for example)...he's an exciting player and his improvisational skills are keen and powerful...a big instrument calls for a big personality to bring out its full potential...Corey can do that (despite the full-on conversation in the background that permeates this recording!).
